The taste of the Riverland

The Riverland’s mediterranean climate helps to create incredibly productive agricultural land, allowing an abundance of citrus fruit trees, stone fruit trees, almonds, avocados and olive oil plantations to flourish. Vineyards also line the region, supplying more than half of South Australia’s total crush. It is no surprise that wine production is second nature to the Riverland.

On your next visit to Berri, experience the sweet flavours of the Riverland firsthand and visit the weekly Farmer’s markets for a taste of the freshest local produce or stop roadside where local farmers set up stalls plentiful of citrus and stonefruit.

From Berri venture West to taste the earthy spices at Backyard Bread. Backyard Bread began out of a backyard wood oven, 5 minutes west of Barmera, where their aim was to develop gourmet products that would complement the regions fine wines while showcasing the diverse flavours of the Riverland. Having outgrown their home based business, Backyard Bread now have a tasting café with many of their gourmet products on offer for sampling and purchasing.

A favourite among visitors to the region are the almond and pistachio nut plantations, unique to the area. Almondco Australia is globally recognised for producing more than 100 almond products at the almond-exclusive processing facility in Renmark. Tour the Almondco Almond Hut as the factory is hard at work and taste the fresh products for yourself!

Relax after a day of exploring the region and enjoy a hearty Angus steak and all your Aussie favourites at Angus & Co. Bar & Grill or dine alongside the mighty Murray in the newly renovated Berri Bistro.

Savoury or sweet, the Riverland has every kind of treat.
